Improv Divas hashtag

# Divas

For one night only, on the opening night of the 2013 New Zealand Improv Festival, WIT’s Improv Divas present . . . Hashtag Divas.

What’s really going on behind those cheery smugdates we all see on our Facebook timelines? In scenes inspired by real-life Facebook updates, the Divas explore this pervasive social medium where everyone’s lives are on display – but the truth is a lot harder to pin down.

The Improv Divas, New Zealand’s only all-female all-improvised comedy act, in an entertaining evening of on-the-spot storytelling.

Thrills and Swoon

Thrills and swoon romance

NZ International Comedy Festival 2013

The reviewer’s conclusion on Thrills, “. . .a happy blend of celebration and satire.  Recommended “.

Quivering bodices. Dark brooding eyes. Unbridled passion. Wellington Improvisation Troupe (WIT) brings you Thrills & Swoon: Improvised Romance. Inspired by the romance novels you pretend not to read, stories and scenes will be created on the spot, as fresh as an innocent flower waiting to be plucked. From the creators of improvised soap The Young and the Witless comes more hysterical romance.

“His lips caress mine. It’s only a brush, but the warmth overheats every part of me. Leaning back, my elbow bumps into the power button on the dryer and the old appliance starts moving. Spinning. Spinning like my head. Like my heart.”

Impro Unwrapped, WIT’s Christmas Cracker 2012

2012_improunwrappedIn association with the Australian Impro Collective, Wellington Improvisation Troupe presents Impro Unwrapped – an international goodwill project that invites audience members to bring along a gift to put under the on-stage Christmas Tree.

We will randomly select and unwrap gifts during the show. The unwrapped gifts will be the inspiration for our Christmas stories and songs all made up on the spot, without a script, without a rehearsal, live before your very eyes! At the end of the night, gifts will be re-wrapped and donated to the fine folk at Wellington City Mission to pass on to those less fortunate, in addition to all proceeds from this performance.

Puppets vs peopleThis show is over – though we remember it fondly.  Puppets vs People ran as a late night show on the 6th, 7th and 14th of December, as part of the 2012 Christmas Cracker season.  Overall, the puppets won.

The ultimate showdown, “Puppets Vs People” is an improvised comedy battle between puppets and humans to prove who is funnier. Scenes are created live on stage using ideas straight from the audience. Continue reading
