Improvised scenes are inspired by the anecdotes friends share while sitting on a couch. Stories are told from a place that is truthful; the improvisors take the ideas places that are sometimes serious, sometimes whimsical, always playful. WIT’s Improv Lounge structure originates with “The Living Room” developed in Chicago nearly forty years ago by Charna Halpern at the iO Theatre.
The Wellington Improvisation Troupe, aka WIT, is a member-based community theatre group and registered charity, teaching and performing in Wellington since 2003. Our theatre is made up on the spot, usually inspired by suggestions from the audience and each other. WIT players share a love of storytelling and work together as a team to inspire the audience, we’re sometimes serious, often hilarious and always totally unpredictable.
